Body of thought

Who are you
creating from?

A designer's method, turned inward. Available as a keynote, a workshop and a longer program.

The Architecture of Becoming

Before we design the life, we have to understand the identity designing it.

A building begins with structure nobody sees. People are no different. Underneath the role, the output and the reputation sits a quieter framework: what we believe, what we were taught, who we have been around, where we have lived, what happened to us and what we decided it meant.

Most of it was assembled without a designer. Ros works with the premise that it can be examined, and that examining it changes what a person is able to build next. The question at the centre of the work is deliberately short.

Who are you creating from?

  • Identity

the version of ourselves we are running

  • Belief

what we have accepted as true

  • Environment

the rooms, cities and cultures we sit inside

  • Relationship

who we become in the company of others

  • Experience

what happened, and what we made it mean

  • Choice

the part still available to us

  • Becoming

Ros has spent a career designing the environments people live inside. Her deepest work now asks a different question: what is designing the person inside them?

For decades her brief was space: hotels, retreats, homes, the quiet choreography of how a room makes a person feel. The work taught her something harder to draw. Places do not only hold our lives. They participate in them.

In 2019 a cancer diagnosis changed the brief entirely, and the same design instinct turned inward. Who are we beneath what we do? What happens to identity when the plan is taken away? Her speaking begins there: at the meeting point of outer environment and inner architecture, where design experience and lived experience agree.

The work is design experience and lived experience, in the same person.

Some rooms need more than another presentation.
